ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COMPANY
GSMB Technical Services (Pvt) Ltd, is a fully government owned company registered as private limited liability company on 12^th September 2001 by the registrar of companies under the companies act No. 07 of 2007. Also, the company is a subsidiary of Geological Survey & Mines Bureau and governed under the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development. Geological Survey & Mines Bureau is the major shareholder of the company having 66.66% of shares and National Gem & Jewellery Authority and Lanka Phosphate Ltd, are the other shareholders with equal shares of 16.67%.

GSMB Technical Services (Pvt) Ltd is the only organization company in Sri Lanka that has the technical knowledge, manpower resources and equipment including analytical laboratories, that has undertaken projects which are divergent for engineering geology for the assessment of mineral resources. The mission of the organization is to provide superior performance in mineral technology and tremendous commercialize back up facility to mineral development and environmental management in Sri Lanka. GSMB Technical Services (Pvt) Ltd strives to be a responsible corporate citizen in the communities where it does business in. This requires us to provide the public with appropriate and accurate responses to inquiries, being sensitive to environmental concerns and to contribute to the well-being of our community.

Geology Industry

Geological study deals with the history of the area selected for the project. The earth with its many mysteries is not always what we see. An in-depth study is required to ensure that the selected area is suitable for the required construction. This includes all areas such as volcanoes, earth quakes, rocks, mountains and oceans.

Drone Surveys
This method is used to assess the most accurate and latest status of the landscape selected. When scaling river beds and mountains the in-depth visuals which are obtained provides statics that are vital prior to project commencement. Mining Industry

Industrial Solutions are required for manufacturing, distribution, retailing, warehousing, consultancy and other such resource automate services. Solutions are how we support the infrastructure to move forward.

Blasting Monitoring
Blasting monitoring is a compliance work which is carried out to confirm the blasting is carried out within the permitted conditions and to control blasting activities in order to prevent any possible structural damages and also to minimize the adverse effects which could arise due to Ground Vibration and Air Blast Over-Pressure. Ground Vibration and Air Blast Over-Pressure are measured by Instantel Micromate Digital Seismograph (made in Canada) which is computerized seismic and sound recording instrument consist with geophones and microphones which are facilitated to get signals. The direct readings are taken from this seismograph after setting the instrument. In the self-triggering mode, the instrument detects and records any seismic activity automatically. The data for Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) (in mm/s) and Air Blast Over-Pressure (in dB) of the seismic activities are collected from the instrument.


Cracks Surveys
Crack surveys are carried out to identify and assess the structural damages which could be caused by a certain construction activity where the construction generates vibration. Cracks are recorded through visual inspection and by taking photographs of the existing cracks. For Pre-Crack Surveys, all existing cracks are recorded before the commencement of construction activities. Apart from the cracks, special cases such as wall damages, glass damages, tile damages & roof damages are also taken into consideration. The inspection procedure of a particular structure is divided into two i.e. exterior inspection & interior inspection. When construction activities proceed, these records are reviewed upon the request of the client for the Intermediate Crack Survey. Post Crack Surveys will be conducted once the construction activities have concluded. After the complete procedure, damages are estimated in a monetary value.


GPS Surveys
GPS Survey is a location mapping procedure which is generally used to identify the surrounding dwellings of a construction/ mining site. This GPS map is critical in decision making aspects such as selection of the most suitable location for the construction/ mining activity. This survey is conducted using Magellan eXplorist Pro 10 GPS, which is uploaded with the Sri Lankan made coordinate system. Coordinates of the quarry area and houses within 500m boundary of the quarry area are recorded (extent of the survey varies based on the client’s requirement). Then the 2D map of the survey is created using AutoCAD software.


Noise Level Measurement and Control Plan
Noise monitoring is inculcated to ensure minimum noise pollution. Noise level is measured according to the BS-4142:1997 method by using noise level meter NL-42 (Type 2). Noise levels are measured when the site is under operation and when the site is not in operation. Recorded noise levels while site is under operation will be moderated after the measurement of residual noise levels of the surrounding environment.


Dust Measurement
Dust monitoring is one aspect of air quality that industrial hygienists use to determine the number of dust particles present in the workplace, cities, or communities over a given period of time. High Volume Air Sampler (APM 460 DXNL) is used to measure the concentration of Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSPM) of a selected location. Concentration of Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSPM) is measured according to the ASTMD 4096-82, 1997 High Volume Sampling and Gravimetric Analysis method. According to the World Health Organization, there are no dust levels in the air that are proven to be healthy. However the amount of the dust particles present in an air sample, itself will largely determine the seriousness of the health impact.


Vibration Monitoring
Vibration monitoring is another compliance work carried out to control the vibration effects to the structures around a construction site. Vibration levels are measured when the site is in operation. GPS coordinates of required points and the distances were taken using MAGELLAN eXplorist Pro 10 GPS. Vibration is measured using Instantel Micromate Digital Seismograph (made in Canada). The equipment is maintained at the continuous mode and measurements are taken while keeping the minimum trigger level at 0.13 mm/sec. Boundary of the land & the vibration measuring locations have to be notified by the client.


Economical Viable Report Preparation
Economic Viability Report (EVR) enables justification of the project and its benefits. It is a prerequisite imposed by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) prior applying mining license. Further, this report will assist in explaining this project to other relevant authorities to obtain necessary approvals down the line. Similarly, this report will assist proprietor to plan mining operations and simultaneous rehabilitation activities properly in future. Purpose of compiling this Economic Viability Report is to obtain a mining license from Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) to revise and implement the new mining (licensing) regulations under the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2130/45 of July 04, 2019.
